“Twist the Knob & Rub the Chub”

Don’t worry, the Beer Blog hasn’t gone all porno on you. The unfortunate turn of phrase that titles this entry doesn’t refer to anything untoward – and shame on you for thinking it did! – but rather, it’s the slogan for a new kind of lip balm, produced by our friends at that craft beer canning Colorado brewery, Oskar Blues, and containing their malty Scottish ale, Old Chub.

That’s right, lip balm with beer. Better still, lip balm with good beer! And even better still, it works! You never need be ashamed of your dry, cracked lips or sissy lip salve again.

I suppose that being a Rocky Mountain operation, where some of the continent’s best skiing and snowboarding is but a short drive away, developing a lip balm was a bit of a natural move for the eccentrics at Oskar Blues, and good on ‘em for thinking to include not only the beer, but also malt, hops, cocoa butter and chocolate among the ingredients. The result is a chocolaty and faintly spicy smelling stick – yes, reminiscent of the aroma of Old Chub ale – that goes on smooth, if perhaps a little too greasy, and seems to hydrate the lips in an instant. Plus, it’s rated SPF 15.

I’m not sure what this will do to advance the cause of good beer, but I know that it will stay with me through the winter, even if the closest I expect to come to the Rockies is the brewery’s website. (That’s also where you can order the Old Chub Stick for yourself.)
