Bamboo Shoot Beer?

One of the blogs that I follow more-or-less regularly is the prolific Epi-log over at the the foodie site, Epicurious. Often, I find interesting tidbits of info about cooking or dining, less often something useful about drink, and at least on occasion a post that’s simply downright entertaining.

This post is inspired by an Epi-log entry that definitely falls into that last category.

If you follow the above link, you’ll be directed to a segment from an old episode of The Electric Company, featuring Rita Moreno and Morgan Freeman. It’s a wonderful, food-based riff on the kind of sing-song rhyming that kids, and at least this adult, simply love.

In fact, I enjoyed the whole thing that I sat down this morning and wrote out my own little ditty. I don’t claim to be a rhyming writer on a par with those who penned Moreno’s words, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

Would you like a beer?
We’ve got fruit beer
Or a root beer
House of ill repute beer
Spill it on your suit beer
Pint of bamboo shoot beer
Shot of Absolut beer
I can do a licorice root beer
Or a rubber boot beer
Bet you don’t want Beirut beer
But try this new jute beer!
How’s that?
You want some near beer?
Won’t get it here, dear!
We only serve real beer
Honest and sincere beer
No black marketeer beer
Or that St. Cyr or Zaire beer
We have some austere beer
And even a frontier beer
But don’t you ever fear, dear
I won’t serve you any near beer
So what do we have?

Why, we’ve got dark beer

A bottle of birch bark beer
Ice cold trailer park beer
Candy flavoured amusement park beer
We used to stock Deutsche mark beer
But now there’s only ballpark beer
I think I’ve a land shark beer
and probably industrial park beer
Draught Noah’s ark beer
And some “just for a lark” beer.
Something lighter, you say?
I’ve got some wheat beer
Can’t be beat beer
Make you lose your seat beer
Some pretty damn sweet beer
Rich enough to eat beer
Or a quenching petite beer
Fermented with beet beer
Tasting of peat beer
man in the street beer
And even…sausage meat beer!
So, what’ll it be?
