Beer Blog

One Helluva Good Idea

I found out from my friend Greg over at Canadian Beer News that the first ever Quebec Beer Day, or Journee Quebecoise de la Biere, will take place exactly one month from today, on August 15. According to the official website, unfortunately available only in French, the day will feature twenty breweries, cideries and bars offering tours and tastings all day long, in regions from Abitibi to the Gaspesie.

(My apologies for the dire lack of proper accents in the above paragraph, but the idiotic software that rules this blog won’t allow for the,.)

This made me think, wouldn’t it be great to expand the effort into a pan-Canadian Beer Day? Granted, the French-language magazine Bieres et Plaisirs which is running the Quebec Beer Day might not be interested in sponsoring anything beyond its provincial borders, but perhaps there might be some way for the English-language Taps Magazine to partner in and promote the thing. Or maybe the Brewers Association of Canada would like to play a role.

However it might occur, it would be wonderful to see a cross-country effort to support our developing beer culture.
