NEWS FLASH: DIY Lime Beer Encroaches on Bud Light/Big Rock/Moosehead/Brick Turf

Item: The latest breweries to enter the “Lime Beer Wars” are Ontario’s Brick Brewing and New Brunswick’s Moosehead, following the success in the segment of Bud Light Lime and Big Rock Lime Light Lager.

Competition is now heating way up in the lime beer segment with the emergence of a cheap and easy alternative to packaged lime-flavoured beers. Apparently inspired by the success of various Mexican alternatives, beer consumers have been adulterating their own beers with actual, store-bought limes.

The procedure these lime beer rebels are employing goes something like this:

  1. Cut up lime.
  2. Pour beer.
  3. Squeeze lime juice into beer.

Results achieved are equal to or, in some cases, actually superior to the packaged lime beers, according to some reports. Says one lime-flavoured beer enthusiast, Andy Ensepid, “I never imagined that flavouring beer with lime could be this easy. Turns out, I can flavour just about any beer I want this way!”

What these radical actions will mean long-term to this Canadian summer’s hot beer segment is undertermined.
