I don’t normally post on single events that don’t have some sort of broader connection, but I thought an upcoming evening in Toronto’s Distillery District to be of sufficient note that it bears mentioning. On September 25, The Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce will be presenting a Dusseldorf Altbierfest from 6:30 onward in the Distillery District’s Fermenting Cellar.
Now, “fest” might be exaggerating things a bit, since the night will feature but a single beer, but altbier is a style so rarely seen in Canada that this night should be well worthy of any beer aficionado’s consideration. (I won’t bother mentioning all the details of the event because they’re right here.) I developed a great appreciation of the many facets and nuances of altbier during an extended visit to Dusseldorf last year — which, incidentally, is a trip I heartily recommend to everyone — and while the featured Frankenheim was not what I thought to be the top of the class, it is certainly representative of the style and should provide a unique tasting experience.
I’d be there myself, happily paying my $35, but I’ll be in Denver at the GABF instead.
