The Bloody Caesar and the Bloody Mary: Perfect for the Canada Day and Fourth of July long weekend

The Bloody Caesar is a perfectly Canadian beverage to enjoy during this Canada Day long weekend and its tomato juice based twin, the Bloody Mary, is juat as perfect a libation for those celebrating the Fourth of July long weekend south of the border (or those not so fond of Clamato juice.

Remember, the beauty of both of these drinks is the freedom to make it your own. Increase the amount of hot sauce or pepper or Worcestershire or horseradish. Add beef stock or grainy mustard or garnish with a zucchini slice or shrimp or bit of sausage. The  possibilities are endless when it comes to these two savory drinks.

Ingredients:
1-1/2 oz vodka
4 oz tomato juice
1/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
3 dashes hot sauce
1 tsp horseradish
Pinch freshly cracked black pepper
Pinch salt or celery salt
Celery stalk (for garnish)
Lemon wedge (for garnish)

Preparation:
Stir all the ingredients in a mixing glass or one half of a shaker and roll back and forth to combine.

Note: Rolling is pouring the contents back and forth between two vessels to combine without greatly agitating the ingredients. Alternatively you can shake the contents but this causes the tomato juice to froth and bubble. In the end, use the method that gives you the drink you prefer.

Pour into an ice-filled highball glass and garnish with celery stalk and lemon wedge.

Bloody Caesar or Bloody Mary? What's your choice?
