I hope they, along with a tall, slender flute of perfectly chilled champagne, make your day.

MxMo LIX: The beer cocktails roundup post

Last week I finished participating in my third Mixology Monday, an online cocktail party that allows us all to whip up a few drinks and discover some creative and talented writers and home bartenders.

The theme for this month's MxMo was beer cocktails and it was hosted by Frederic at the Cocktail Virgin Slut blog.

I haven't had a chance to read through all the great entries, 29 in total I believe, but my first look through shows a very promising and varied group of drinks. Read the roundup post to check at all the tasty beer cocktail submissions.

MxMo LIX: Beer Cocktails: The Beerbach Cocktail

mxmologoThis month's Mixology Monday theme is Beer Cocktails and this month's host is Frederic at Cocktail Virgin Slut. Mixology Monday is a monthly online cocktail party showcasing great recipes, writers, mixologists and booze blogs. Check out the Mixology Monday homepage for all the details.

Using Frederic's guidelines and suggestions, I've decided to try a Champagne cocktail for this month's MxMo, substituting beer for the sparkling wine. I love Champagne and cocktails featuring sparkling wine so this seemed like a good idea.

I decided that my base would be a classic, pre-Prohibition Champagne cocktail named the Seelbach, the recipe for which had been lost for many years before being rediscovered. It's a very tasty, sturdy drink that can sneak up on you if you have too many.

I used a simple lager for the following drink and somewhat surprisingly, it worked well. I think a heavier beer might have fought off the other flavours, although if anyone wants to give it a go and let me know the results, I'd be interested.

Oh yeah, if you love bitters, this is definitely a drink for you.

Another cocktail to enjoy during the Royal Wedding: The Kiss Royale

With the Royal Wedding only days away (April 29), I received another cocktail recipe inspired by the big event in my inbox this morning.

I'm in the office so I can't give it a try until later, but as a fan of cocktails featuring sparkling wines, the ingredient list certainly looks promising. Plus, champagne is just classy, right?

Oh yeah. For the sake of full disclosure, no one sent me any free Bénédictine to promote this recipe. Or free anything else for that matter. Honest.

Royal Wedding cocktail: The Kiss Royale. A drink fit for royalty?

Ingredients:
25 ml Bénédictine
12.5 ml elderflower liqueur
12.5 ml fresh lime juice
Dash egg white
Top with Ridgeview Merret Grosvenor sparkling wine

Method:
1. Add Bénédictine, elderflower liqueur, lime juice and egg white in a cocktail shaker with a generous batch of ice.

2. Shake well and fine strain into a champagne flute or saucer. Top with sparkling wine.

3. Garnish with dried lavender sprig.

Recipe created by John Clay.

A couple of tips:
1.
For those of you uncomfortable with the metric system, or without the measures to pull it off, I'd approximate the ingredients as follows. (Again, this is an approximation only.) I would use 1 oz of the Bénédictine, and a 1/2 oz each of the elderflower liqueur and the lime juice.

2. Never agitate sparkling wine, champagne or other carbonated mixers/beverages in your shaker. Use them to top off your drinks. It will save you a lot of cleaning up.

If you're thirsty for more drinks to enjoy during the special festivities, here are another 4 royal wedding cocktails you can make at home.

Is the Royal Wedding your cup of tea? Or do you have better things to do?
