3 tequila cocktails for the Labour Day long weekend

The final long weekend of the summer is here. It's a bittersweet thought. Still, with 3 weeks of summer left, there's still plenty of time to soak up some sun, spend time with family and friends and enjoy a few good tequila cocktails, courtesy of our friends at Milagro Tequila. Have a wonderful Labour Day weekend!

Ingredients:
2 oz Milagro Silver Tequila
1 oz lime juice
3/4 oz agave nectar

Preparation:
Shake in a shaker with cracked ice and serve over fresh ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a half rim of salt and a lime wheel.

Smoked Peach Ice Tea: A long tequila drink for summer's last long weekend

The most beloved season of the year is winding down as summer's last long weekend is upon us. Tequila Herradura Reposado (which sent me the following recipe) combined with the summer flavours of iced tea and peaches, make for a refreshing summer quencher.

Herradura Smoked Peach Ice Tea

Ingredients:
1-1/2 oz Herradura Reposado
1/2 oz lemon Juice
1-1/2 oz peach juice
1-1/2 oz Earl Grey tea
1/4 oz simple syrup
1/4 oz mezcal
1 lemon twist
1 peach slice

Instructions:
Fill a highball glass with good quality cubed ice. Add all ingredients and stir thoroughly with a bar spoon, then garnish with a long lemon twist and/or a peach slice.

3 tequila cocktails featuring Tequila Avion

A Tequila Avion rep wrote me recently and provided a trio of recipes and images for tequila cocktails.

I myself have recently rediscovered tequila, thanks to area liquor stores finally carrying a better quality assortment of tequilas. So, I'm always excited for a few more tequila cocktail ideas. (Note: Tequila Avion is now available in Ontario's LCBO stores.)

Here are the recipes. If you give them a try, let me know what you think of 'em.

Ingredients:
2 oz Tequila Avión Añejo
3/4 oz dry sherry
5 cranberries
3/4 oz allspice infused simple syrup
2 lemon wedges

Method:
Muddle cranberries, lemons and simple syrup in a shaker. Fill shaker with lots of ice and add tequila and sherry and shake strongly, until frothy.

Strain into an ice-filled old-fashioned glass and garnish with a few fresh cranberries and a cinnamon stick.

Ingredients:
2 parts Milagro Reposado
3/4 part agave nectar
1 part fresh lime juice
4 pineapple chunks
2 basil leaves

Preparation:
Muddle fruit and herbs in a Boston shaker glass, then add other ingredients and shake vigorously with ice.

Strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice and garnish cocktail with a pineapple wedge and basil.

For the connoisseur:
Go one step further by adding three dashes of Angostura bitters and top with ginger beer in a highball glass.
